Arch Resources no longer trades on its own. In January 2025 it completed a merger of equals with CONSOL Energy, creating Core Natural Resources. Arch shares stopped trading on January 14, 2025, with holders receiving 1.326 CNR shares for each ARCH share. The combined company is headquartered in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
What Arch brought to the deal
- Premium metallurgical mines. The Leer and Leer South longwall complexes in West Virginia produce high-vol met coal that commands seaborne pricing for steelmakers.
- West Elk. A low-cost Colorado longwall producing high calorific value thermal coal suited to export markets.
- A disciplined balance sheet. Arch spent its final years as a standalone company prioritizing debt reduction and shareholder returns — a posture Core has largely carried forward.
